March 15, 2024:
Transportation hosts neighboring districts for EV Bus Info. Session

On March 15, the Transportation Department conducted an information session about the district's new EV bus with neighboring districts. We thank Chenango Valley, Owego, and Elmira School District members for attending and learning about our bus.

JC administrators tour local gigafactory
Administrators from Johnson City recently visited our local gigafactory in Endicott to explore new ways to engage and educate our students in clean energy. As we continue our transition to an electric fleet, we are grateful to have expert local partners in this journey. Thank you to our partners at C4V and I3NY for their support.

February 16, 2024:
Environmental Science classes learn about the new EV bus
Elizabeth Fox, Director of Auxiliary Services for the JC Transportation Department, visited Lydia Mann's Environmental Science Classes on Thursday to talk about electric buses. The discussion tied into the classes' lessons on renewable and non-renewable resources and carbon dioxide emissions. Following the discussion, the classes had an opportunity to take a ride on our electric bus.

January 30, 2024: 
New York Truck Voucher Incentive Program to provide funding for electric bus
In late January, the district took one of its old diesel buses to Weitsman Recycling in Owego to be demolished as part of the New York Truck Voucher Incentive Program (NYTVIP) through NYSERDA. The vehicle is the first Johnson City school bus to receive this funding. We thank our partner and scrappage experts Weitsman's and Barry Carr, Coordinator of Clean Communities of CNY, for working with our district to secure this funding and take one more diesel bus off the road.

January 23, 2024:
District hosts first responder training at transportation complex

On Monday evening, Johnson City Schools hosted a safety training for local first responders at the JC Transportation Complex. Kodie Shamrock from Leonard Bus Sales, Inc. explained the technology of the district's new EV bus and highlighted its many safety features.

January 10, 2024:
JC Schools receives its first electric bus
Johnson City Schools received its first electric bus on January 10 and held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the transportation complex. We thank our partners Leonard Bus Sales, Inc., Binghamton University,  IC Bus, C4V, Cornice Technology, BAE Systems, NYSERDA, the JC Board of Education, and JC voters for making our EV bus possible.

November 21, 2023:
JC gets a sneak peek of its first electric-powered school bus

The Johnson City Central School District looks forward to being the first district in the area to acquire an electric school bus this school year. Today, some of our district administration were given a sneak preview of the new bus manufactured by the IC Bus company. The purchase of this voter-approved bus marks Johnson City's first step toward New York stateโ€™s plan to have full electric school bus fleets in every district by 2035.
